Cheltenham Gold Cup target for Native River

Part-owner Garth Broom has confirmed Native Rivers season is going to likely be aimed around a fourth tip in the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Winner of the blue riband event in 2018 following having a memorable tussle with Might Bite, the Colin chestnut had finished third behind Sizing John 12 weeks before and ran to complete fourth behind Al Boum Photo when defending his crown.
Plans are fluid with races like the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow and the Betfair Chase at Haydock, for the first half of the campaign – which he won – .
But there isnt any doubt about where connections want to find yourself.
Broom said:He looks very nicely, but we arent going to rush him this season. I really dont understand where he will start at his point.
I really dont think there is much point going to the King George because he doesnt really like the course in Kempton and we are toying with the Welsh National. Until the horse is spot-on and also the ground stems right, we are not creating any firm plans.
I know he would have to provide a great deal of weight away in the Welsh National, however the monitor suits him. Ireland (Savills Chase at Leopardstown) is a choice and we are maintaining an open mind.
What we need him are the Denman Chase at Newbury and the Gold Cup following Christmas. Im not saying he would win the Gold Cup, but I would hope as hes been put in it three times, he would operate well in it.
He never lets us down and always runs his race.
