International marriages in South Korea: the value of nationality and ethnicity

Global wedding has grown drastically in South Korea in modern times, and also by 2005, 13.6 percent of marriages included a international partner. The objective of this research is twofold: to explore the demand that is demographic availability of international partners within the wedding market in Southern Korea, also to examine exactly how social jobs of foreign spouses differ by their spot within the marriage market as dependant on their nationality and ethnicity. Information show that the interest in international partners is very strong among rural never-married and urban divorced men that are korean. Among international wives, Chinese, particularly Korean Chinese, tend to marry divorced Koreans, partly because most of them have also hitched prior to. The Korean Chinese will be the most autonomous among five categories of foreign spouses analyzed, showing the greatest prices of Korean citizenship, divorce-separation, and work. Southeast Asian ladies have a tendency to marry rural never-married guys, and they’re probably the most adaptive towards the host culture in how they reveal on the list of greatest prices of Korean citizenship and employment (after managing for his or her bad Korean proficiency and short timeframe in Korea). Their divorce-separation price may be the cheapest no matter such control.
