After a yearlong investigation, an Alaska Department of Fisheries퍼스트 카지노 and Oceans team has determined that it failed to correctly calculate the amount of water it received in spring 2016 after a drought of some 10,000 square miles — a period of years when the state received more water than all other states combined.
“The drought that we’re seeing in our state right now is really unprecedented,” said Steve Smith, who was director of water resources during the 2015-16 drought. “We had all these large reservoirs that were filled up in terms of water that we received each day. And the amount of water that we were delivering to the watersheds was actually very large — I would guess it was in the millions of acre-feet, or about 5 million to 8 million acre-feet.”
Smith called the data analysis a “slight oversight” at an agency he said the state had been trying to fix for many years, so that its own staff had better data on how much water its streams were replenishing.
While experts dispute the state’s interpretation, Smith told Alaska Dispatch News the agency’s scientists didn’t do enough to try to track its groundwater sources. They relied on a computer model, he said, that provided estimates of the number of water flows on Alaska’s watersheds for each spring, but it didn’t tell the story accurately.
So the state sent the data to the California-based Environmental Protection Agency in a joint project with Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
The state’s researchers also found “several other anomalies,” or problems, including low groundwater values for lakes during a dry winter, lower water flow estimates in some of the states’ sm양산출장안마aller rivers, and inaccurate reporting of flow rates for springs in the southern Uintah basin.
The state, the EPA, and state and Alaska Departments of Environmental Protection said Thursday they would look into how their systems functioned, and to why the agency failed to use the data it collected at the outset of the summer to prepa카지노 게임re water for conservation.
The agency also said it is reviewing the data to see whether it could have done better in its assessment of water flows from those reservoirs as well as for the thousands of years it spent trying to use the water.
The new study by the agency’s aquatic resources team found that the summer of 2016 was probably the driest year in state history, with some 50,000 square miles of low water level
