Land care group to spend 8m on environment projects in year
The Green Party is to spend a combined £8m to improve the local area around its new Brighton and Hove site.

Green Party leader Natalie Bennett said that the fund would bring the Green Party’s area around Brighton’s busiest shopping centre, and encourage local businesses to adopt clean transport practices.
Shelley Greenfield, a spokeswoman for Green Party campaign chief Caroline Lucas, said the party would spend the money in part to protect local businesses in a different part of the shopping centre, from “barging into old abandoned shops and buildings that had collapsed in the past”.
“This will give residents around the centre the ability to reduce their exposure, to try to stay away from those sites as a precaution,” Ms Greenfield said.
The Greens pledged to spend £100m to “improve the water quality around Brighton and Hove, while developing cleaner green transport and more renewable energy options.”
Brighton, an industrial town that was once home to a major rail station and several big housing estates, has been hit by the collapse of a string of high-profile local industries, including a major coal-mining industry.
