Online Dating With A Disability

Online dating, you know, it’s tough for anyone really but I think that when you have a disability and quite low self-esteem it can be really, really difficult I am registered blind I use a cane for that to help me out and about I also have a mobility issue where I have got problems with my left leg, so I also use a crutch When it gets to chatting to people, I always have that severe crippling anxiety of “do I tell the person that I have a disability or do I wait till we meet?” Sometimes I feel like it is easier to tell them, then the rejection’s quick and easy and you’ve not actually met the person Other times, it depends how it goes I’ve had experiences where people have been fine about it but then the conversation kinda fizzles out And then I’ve had other experiences where I tell them maybe a little bit later on and they’ve hit the unmatch button very quickly I find that a lot of people who don’t have a disability or at least a disability that affects their life in a massive way might not understand that not getting to know the person might have a quite big effect on the person that you’re speaking to mentally I’m a passionate person, I’m a creative person I love movies, even though I might not be able to see certain films cause of light I love being with friends, I love going out on nights out I am a person, I’m a human like everyone else and everybody has something different about them But no one seems to want to get to know these things beyond my disability I just hope that in future people won’t be so quick to hit that unmatch button and get to know someone who could be someone that you’ve been waiting for
